start wearing purple

Today I went to visit my hair dresser Lisa Marie at her new salon.  It's been a good year/year and a half since I've seen her, but I missed her. She was so super supportive of me letting my friend experiment on my hair too, which was cool and made me feel like less of a cheater. She is awesome, and just got done doing hair at LA's fashion week.  It sounded super fun.  You can check her out on Instagram, glamourbylisamarie...where she posts pics of her work.  I'm loving my new violet ombre!

What do you think?

goin for the....pink!

I did it! (Or more accurately, my friend did it).   My hair is now partially pink, kind of a hot raspberry shade.  I'm so glad I have a job where this little hair stunt is not only acceptable, but encouraged!  My friend is a cosmetology student, and I'm glad to give her a chance to practice on me...which I probably wouldn't have always done...especially after being in cosmetology school and hearing the horror stories.  But, I love my friend and trust her.  Next up: BANGS!

We used a hair bleach first, then Manic Panic in Hot Hot Pink for this...I originally went with Cotton Candy Pink, but it was too light to show up in my hair.

What's the craziest thing you've done with your hair, or would like to do?

a beautiful year

A couple of the blogs I read have posted their beauty resolutions...and so, although I've already mentioned my non new year's resolutions, I'll add on with some beauty resolutions.

Let's start by being more adventurous with my hair.  This will be easy, seeing as my friend is a cosmo student and my new job has no probs with look.  I've actually started on this a bit already, but am ready to go a bit further.  I really wanted the pink ends, and my friend bleached my hair and colored it last week, but the pink I picked was too light (just like she said it would be) so I picked up the next shade darker and am excited to see how it comes out!  (I'll post my own, once we're done)

I'm going to wear heels more often.  Don't get me wrong, I love my sneakers and flip flops but sometimes I just wish I dressed up my feet more.  This year, I think I will.

I'm going to push my wardrobe...I admire so many types of styles.  I love vintage looks and beachy looks, indie and polished....but day to day I wear black tops and jeans.  I'd like to be less boring and more fun with what I put on my person.

I guess all in all, I'd really like to kick things up a notch...I want to have more fun with everything I do.  Inside and out.

the day I dyed...my hair

I know that I've tried to title all my post with the word "pretty"...but it was tough to keep coming up with stuff...so if something clever strikes me, I might use it...but for now let me just take a minute to talk about my little in home hair experience.

I've had my hair colored by professionals mainly. I've gotten color, done the highlights, and the lowlights.  At home left to my own devices I generally just stuck to giving my hair the occasional clear gloss.  Yesterday I was at Target, and Garnier Nutrisse hair color was a dollar off, so as with all trips to Target I went in for one thing...and came out with a bunch of random things.

I picked out Garnier Nutrisse's Medium Natural Brown 50 (or "Truffle").  This morning I got up slipped on the gloves, mixed it up and 25 minutes later...voila!  I like the way it turned out overall. Just a few shades darker than the color I started with, which is what I was going for.  Ever since I dyed it red forever ago I can almost always see some reddish tints in my hair...but this appears to cover super evenly.

I did have one tiny little mishap though...I didn't feel a little length of hair that was pressed against my jawline.  When I put all of my hair up to wait for the timer I missed these few little strands and so they stayed on my lower cheek for the entire time with hair dye on my face! As quick as I could I googled how to remove the stain.  Wouldn't you know that everyone told me the best way to avoid a stain is to prevent them from happening in the first place!! Well duh...but clearly, if I'm googling "how to remove hair dye from face" it's a little late for the preventative measures.

I had already tried the various home remedies (oil based makeup remover, scrub, exfoliate with brush, etc...).  So it was suggested to go to my local beauty supply (I generally go to Sally's) to pick up a hair color stain remover.  What's nice about these is that they actually sell individual packets for these little minor mishaps.  I tried two different brands. Both had the same instructions (leave on the stain for 30 seconds, then rinse with water).
Tried this one first, worked pretty well.
It faded the stain  almost  completely.

Used this one to remove the mostly faded stain.
I didn't really like how it smelled, but it doesn't stay on long.

There you go, that was my adventure into hair color at home...don't know why I have to make things so difficult sometimes.
